Shona Barr, an artist living and working in rural Scotland, welcomes you to her website and hopes you enjoy browsing through the images of her paintings and textile work.
Shona’s artwork is inspired by her love of the natural environment and man’s interaction with it. She sees this relationship in the everyday agricultural life of her fertile Angus surroundings as well as the wilder mountain and coastal landscapes of, particularly, the North West Highlands of Scotland. Places where ancient buildings or sacred sites have become intertwined with nature also fascinate.
Shona attempts to capture the trans-formative effects of the ever changing light and seasons.
Having originally worked in veterinary practice, Shona rediscovered her long held interest in art during recovery from chronic ME.
Her paintings are predominantly in watercolour and oils and she increasingly experiments with mixed media effects.
The textile work involves free motion machine embroidery and uses recycled fabrics in vibrant colours and varying textures.
The paintings featured are for sale. If you would like to purchase an original painting, a signed giclée print or would like more information about the artwork or a possible commission please contact Shona.
